The Bible has a high view of marriage. It is to be a
lifetime plan, not a convenience that can be disposed of whenever it gets
tough. The love of a husband and wife,
at its best, is a hint of the deeper love between a believer and God.
Ephesians
5:21-6: (KJV)
21 Submitting
yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
22 Wives,
submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the
husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and
he is the saviour of the body.
It is hard for me to imagine anyone actually hating his own
body. As indicated by the verse, most of us lovingly care for our own bodies,
just as Christ cares for His church, the bride of Christ. Husbands and wives
are to love and care for each other as we would our own bodies. Love says give
while lust says take. This may be a very
simplistic explanation, but, what can I say, I like simple. Perhaps the reason many marriages struggle is
a result of misunderstanding the expectations of true love.
