Gossip:
Written by a Grace Baptist Church Teen
People are going to talk; there is
nothing we can do about that! We cannot live our lives in defense trying to
correct anything others may have said about us, but we can live in such a way
that if someone spoke negatively of us – no one would believe it.
There are teenage aspects of life that
never really go away. Some people love the “he said, she said” drama, and never
grow past all of that.
Rise above it! Even as a teen, you can
save yourself from so much trouble if you don’t get mixed up in bad-mouthing
others. If it is not kind, it usually does not need to be said. (online or in
person)
Ephesians
4:29 says “Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that
it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
The word “edify” in this verse means to
build. God wants us to use our words to
build others up. Jesus went about using
his words to build his disciples and followers.
This verse also says our words should give grace to the hearers. The Bible has many things to say about our
words being kind.
When someone gossips about you, you
have a choice to make. Do you treat that
person the way that they treated you? Do
you stoop to their level, or do you take the “high road?” Treat others with kindness when they do you
wrong, and your kindness will be returned to you. Live and speak in such a way that when people
speak negatively about you, no one will believe them.
