We live in a fast-paced,
instant-gratification world. We complete
something and expect to see the results of it immediately. We want everything 10 minutes ago. This might work when it comes to ordering a cheeseburger
and expecting it quickly, but most definitely not when it comes to the things
of God.
God most definitely works
on His own timetable. You can find the
phrases “wait on the Lord” and “wait upon the Lord” several times in the
Bible. The word “patience” is in the
Bible 34 times also. This is His way of
letting us know that He knows best about what we need and when we need it. I can’t imagine that if we got what we asked
for, exactly when we asked for it, that we would be very appreciative for many
things. In addition, some things we ask
for, we don’t need. God knows this, but
we can’t usually see it until later. Reminds
me of that saying “I thank God for unanswered prayers.”
Galatians 6:9 says “And let us not be weary in well doing: for
in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Reap means to gather; to obtain; to receive as a reward. There is most definitely reward for doing things in God’s time rather
than our own.
