"Be selective with your battles. Sometimes peace is better than being right."
When I first read this quote, I started by looking up every
time the word “peace” was mentioned in the Bible. It’s actually in there 429 times. Then I went to the idea of “holding your
peace” or as we say it now “keeping your mouth shut”.
In Matthew 26:63 and Mark 14:61 it says that Jesus “held his
peace”. Both of these were accounts of
when Jesus was before the high priest being accused of things He had not
done. He could have spoken up and
defended Himself, after all, He was innocent of all charges. But He remained His ever-humble self and kept
silent. He knew that in the end everyone
would know the truth, so what He said in that moment didn’t matter in the grand
scheme of God’s plan. What a great
example Jesus is to us!
Proverbs 17:28 says “Even a fool, when
he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and
he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a
man of understanding.”
