Family Friday: How to Pray for your Husband

Prayers for Your Husband

We know that husbands and wives should pray for each other, and we often do.  However, sometimes we do not know what to pray, or we do not even have a plan beyond knowing that we need to pray.  Here is a suggestion for some specific prayers for wives to pray for their husbands.

1. His Mind
His Mind - That he will have the mind of Christ and think as the Holy Spirit would lead him, not the flesh. (1 Corinthians 2:16)
Lord, I pray for______'s mind today. Help him take every thought captive and make it obedient to you. Help him dwell on things of the Spirit and put to death the things of the flesh.

 2. His Eyes, Ears and Mouth
His Eyes -That  he will keep his eyes from temptation and that he will turn his eyes from sin. (Matthew 6:13; Mark 9:47) His Ears - That he will hear Your still small voice instructing him. (1 Kings 19:12, Psalm 32:8) His Mouth -That his words will be pleasing to You. (Psalm 19:14)
Lord, keep______'s eyes firmly fixed on you. Keep him far away from evil. Let all that comes out of his mouth be gracious and loving, overflowing with thankfulness. Keep his eyes and ears from sin; give him strength to resist temptation.

3. His Shoulders
His Shoulders - That he will not carry burdens and worries on his own shoulders, but trust that nothing is too hard for You. (Genesis 18:14; Jeremiah 32:17)
Lord, lift the burdens that weigh _____ down today. Help him cast his cares on you. Help him shoulder the burdens that you desire him to carry, but to do it with your help. Help him to know that he doesn't have to do it all on his own strength, but that he has you there to help him every day.

4. His Heart
His Heart -That he will love and trust God with his whole heart. (Deuteronomy 6:5, Proverbs 3:5)
Lord, as much as I love ______, I know You love him infinitely more. I pray he loves You more than anyone or anything in this world, even me. I pray this knowing that the more he comes to love You, the more he will love me. Lord, draw his heart close to You. Let him hunger for You. Thank you for Your everlasting love for him.

5. His Arms and Hands
His Arms - That You will be his strength. (Psalm 73:26)His Hands - That he will enjoy the work of his hands and see it as a gift from You. (Ecclesiastes 3:13, 5:19)
Lord, please establish the work of _____'s hands. Please bring fruitfulness to his work. Though we know work will always include toil, I pray he finds much joy in working through the toil to complete the tasks given to him.

6. His Ring Finger
His Ring Finger (for my husband) – That he will love me as Christ loved the Church. (Ephesians 5:25-27).
Lord, please help _____ love me as you love me. I know he will not do this perfectly, but I pray he strives to each day. Help me love him like this, too -- with my ego out of the picture, and selflessness to be my attitude always.

7. His Legs
His Legs - That he will stand firm on the truth, knowing that if he does not stand firm in his faith, he will not stand at all. (Psalm 62:6; Isaiah 7:9)
Lord, help ______ stand firm in his faith. Help him hold fast to the hope he has in you. Help him not give into despair when hard times come, but to cling to you and trust that you never let the righteous fall. Thank you for making us all righteous -- all having right standing with you -- through the atoning death of Jesus.

 8. His Knees
His Knees - That he will humble himself before You and be strong, courageous, and careful to do everything written in Your Word with humility. Help him live life on his knees -- always taking everything in prayer to you. (James 4:10; Joshua 1:8-9)
Lord, help _____be humble before you. Help him to grow in faithful prayer and obedience toward you. Help him grow to live life on his knees-- praying for every trial as it comes, learning to trust in your goodness for us.

9. His Feet
His feet - That You will order his steps, and that he will walk in Your truth. (Proverbs 4:25; Psalm 26:3)
Lord, keep _______ on the path you have for him. Help him not to stray off the path, but to trust in the goodness and grace that comes from an obedient life. Let him find great joy in following you all the days of his life.

Praying for each other will strengthen your marriage and make you more aware of each other’s needs.
