Thoughtful Thursday: Singing JOY

One of the ways that joy is spread during the Christmas season is by singing.  Just about everywhere you go, Christmas music can be heard.  It is on the radio in your car.  It is playing while you shop in stores.  It is sung during church services.  Although, not as popular as it once was; occasionally, you might even hear a group of carolers out somewhere.  Music is so very effective in putting us in a festive, jovial mood.

Isaiah 52:9 says “Break forth into joy, sing together,” This verse is so uplifting to me.

I imagine a room full of people and once person so happy that they can’t help but to break out into song. There are such a vast array of Christmas songs.  Ones about snow, ones about reindeer, but the ones that should bring us the most joy are the ones that are about the real reason we celebrate Christmas.  I hope that during this holiday time, you will take some time to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday.  I hope the words of the songs will cause you to consider all that God has done for you, so that you can’t help but break forth into joy.

                O Holy Night
O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices
O night divine!
O night when Christ was born
O night divine!
O night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains He shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in His name, all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
Let all within us praise His holy name
Christ is the Lord!
Their name forever praise we

Noel, Noel
O night, O night divine
Noel, Noel
O night, O night divine
Noel, Noel
O night, O holy night
