The question is not, “What gifts or talents has God given
to me?” The question we should ask ourselves is, “Am I willing to give all of
my gifts and talents to God for His use?” We should all desire to be “Ten
talent” Christians; because, that would enable us to be used by God in a
greater way. The problem with being concerned about the talents that we possess
is that we generally become the focus of the results produced by those talents,
in place of the Lord. I find that this
is very similar to the crowns that God has told us that we can earn in Heaven
through our Christian service. We do not
labor to obtain those crowns in order to piously walk about Heaven someday wearing
them. We desire to win those to place
them at the feet of Jesus, for He alone is worthy! Believer, our focus must be taken off of
“self” and be placed on the Father and others.
That is the “More excellent way!” So, YES, desire to have a great deal
of talents and gifts; they will allow you opportunities to glorify God in a
greater way.
I Corinthians 12:27-31:
1Co 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
1Co 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
1Co 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
1Co 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
1Co 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
